A word from the President – Summer 2010

Dear Madame, dear Sir,

As you know what is at stake in the fight against HIV/AIDS, you are engaged in this battle with the Fondation québécoise du sida, and we sincerely thank you! Like the work carried out every day by the member organizations and many volunteers, your commitment plays a determining role in the outcome of this battle. It is through both individual and collective mobilization that we will reach our objective—there is strength in numbers!

In our desire to participate in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa, the Fqsida now works with PLUS, coalition internationale sida. This partnership will ensure an even more efficient effort in the fight against HIV/AIDS in French-Speaking Africa, echoing the current standards of Quebec’s social community culture. In fact, Coalition PLUS guarantees conformity of its member organizations to the criteria of community-based action.

Coalition PLUS is comprised of five leading African associations active in the fight against HIV/AIDS in their respective countries (Morocco, Mali, Burkina Faso, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo).

It works to:
-         Provide technical support to its members in their organizations;
-         Influence major funders and forcefully advocate in the halls of power on behalf of people living with HIV/AIDS;
-         Sustain members by giving them more means, such as providing priority funding for field projects;
-         Develop a more cooperative approach by sharing knowledge and experiences, and to carry out community-based research, audits and sociological studies.

Thus, donors, volunteers, member organizations in Québec and the African organizations associated with Fqsida, are together actively contributing to eradicate this terrible disease and putting an end to the discrimination faced by people living with HIV.

In solidarity,

Terry Pigeon
President
