At 92, the honorary president of the Farha Foundation passed away on January 18, 2018 after 25 years of fighting HIV / AIDS. She wanted to continue the work of her son Ron Farha, who died of HIV / AIDS in 1993. Very active within the foundation, she managed to raise through the marches she organized nearly $10 million redistributed to some 75 organizations fighting against HIV / AIDS.
Known for her commitment and dedication to the cause of AIDS, Ms. Evelyn Farha has received several distinctions throughout her life.
She will be posthumously awarded the “Phénicia Société” 2018. This recognition of the LGBT community will be presented to her daughters, Nancy, Carolyn and Linda, on May 31 during the 14th edition which will take place in the Parquet room of the “Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec”. This is to pay tribute to an extraordinary woman who, with courage and humanity, has been able to combat the stigmas and prejudices experienced by people living with HIV / AIDS for more than two decades.
“La Fondation québécoise” du sida is deeply affected by her death, which constitutes a huge loss for the HIV / AIDS community. Determined, Fqsida intends to continue the fight against stigmatization but above all to support organizations that work with people living with HIV / AIDS.
