In the current dynamics of the global HIV / AIDS epidemic, the communities most at risk of the virus are sex workers, men who have sex with men and people who inject drugs. Because of the discrimination and even the criminalization to which they are subjected, these people are indeed 10 to 24 times more likely to be infected with HIV than the general population. The cause is limited access to prevention and treatment, when their sexual practices or drug use are condemned by society, or even by the state. According to the terms of reference of the United Nations, these are the so-called “key” populations in the epidemic.
